Codes for AraC, a transcription factor which represses operon. Arabinose dislodges TF protein.
This composite part codes on both the sense and anti-sense strand, and includes a promoter for each strand. The transcription factor AraC is coded on the anti sense. The protein that AraC produces binds the AraPromoter on the sense strand, inhibiting actuation and further transcription.
Once arabinose is introduced, arabinose binds to the protein, and it dislodges from the AraPromoter, so that transcription can begin. The phenomena of coding on both the sense and anti sense strand is often found in small prokaryotic organisms as it allows for more information to be coded in a smaller space.
